North Charleroi residents may have to abide by new burning restrictions in the future.
During a business meeting Monday, council discussed a proposed ordinance that will be put up for a vote next month. It would permit the burning of clean, dry wood in a proper receptacle daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Brush, leaves, twigs and other items considered to be refuse are not permitted to be burned.
All receptacles, including fire pits, chimneys and burn bins, must be inspected by the Lock No. 4 Volunteer Fire Company.
All fires must be attended by an adult at least 18 years old and cannot burn for more than four consecutive hours.
All fires must be at least 50 feet from a building and 25 feet from vehicles.
Allowable fires must also be near a garden hose that is connected to a constant water source and is ready to use in case of an emergency.
Fires will not be permitted underneath trees or on an inclined surface and must be contained within protective barriers.
Violators will be subject to penalties if found to be in violation of the proposed ordinance.
