BVA won’t defy current state face mask mandate

The Belle Vernon Area School Board will not be taking action to fight against the state mask mandate.
That was the response parent Jodie Winwood received Tuesday during the board’s work session. She was the only parent to speak at the meeting. Winwood said the mask mandate had one of her children in tears and she finds the district’s requirement of a doctor’s note to get an exemption to be a violation of her child’s privacy under HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
