Melvin F. ‘Bucky’ Walkush Sr. – North Belle Vernon
Melvin F. ‘Bucky’ Walkush Sr., 92, of North Belle Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at The Residence at Hilltop, Carroll Township. Born July 22, 1929, in North Belle Vernon, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Heretik Walkush. A lifelong resident of North Belle Vernon, Mr. Walkush was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon, was retired from the Page Steel and Wire Division of ACCO in Monessen and also from PennDOT, where he worked as a quality assurance inspector. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy. Bucky was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, adjutant, former councilman for North Belle Vernon Borough and member of the Mon Valley Refuse Disposal Authority. He is survived by his long-time companion, Judy Pawlowski; two sons, Melvin F. “Bucky” Walkush Jr. (Carol) of Rostraver Township and Mark (Lisa) Walkush of North Wales, Pa.; daughter, Pamela (Kevin) Crothers of Washington, Pa.; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Josh) Miller, Annie (Brandon) Wozniak, Kristen Lucas, Julie Walkush, Derek Walkush and Alex Walkush; four great-grandchildren, Makenzie Miller, Jace Miller, Bryson Wozniak, Taysom Wozniak and baby Miller due in November. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Julianna Mazur Walkush on Sept. 16,1989; two brothers, Carl Walkush and Joseph Jr. (Adeline, who survives); 10 sisters, Anna Moxin, Augustine Ezolt, Helen McCullough, Mary Altieri, Frances Curcio, Edith Walkush, Ethel Walkush, Irene Gibson, Mildred Ward and Cecelia Sweitzer. He was the last remaining member of the original Walkush family. Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 4 2021, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the funeral home, followed by funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Rev. Rodolfo Mejia as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family request that masks be worn and social distancing must be maintained. Members of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will conduct services Monday evening at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Members of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will also conduct military honors along with the U.S. Navy Honor Guard at the cemetery.
