Helen R. Hreno Veschio – Monessen
Helen R. Hreno Veschio, 81, of Monessen, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, following a brief illness on Tuesday Oct. 19, 2021, in AHN Jefferson Hospital. She was born on Aug. 14, 1940, in North Charleroi, the daughter of the late John and Mary Hudi Hreno. Helen was a lifelong resident of Monessen, Class of 1958. She attended Douglas Business School and worked as a senior administrative assistant for Mellon Bank at various locations. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church and its Epiphany Ladies, F.C.S.L.A., Red Hat Society, Charleroi Goldenagers, an active participant with the P.T. Cruisers at the Mariners Hall in Dunlevy and enjoyed going out to dinner with her classmates. For years, she and her late husband Val were instrumental in making sure everyone had a great time at many functions at the Charleroi Elks Lodge No. 494. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt who was loved by all who knew her. Helen was noted for her artistic abilities when planning events and enjoyed cooking and baking so she could share her recipes with everyone. Friends of Helen knew she was good hearted, kind and generous to all. Surviving are her daughter, Cindy (Michael) Pawelec of Monessen; son, Val Gene (Lorrie) Veschio Jr. of Monessen; grandchildren, Autumn, Garrett and Blake Pawelec, Kendall Veschio; and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Val Gene Veschio; two brothers, Michael and John Hreno; and by three sisters, Anne Haschets, Mary Pavlik and Susan Urko. Friends will be received in DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. & CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22. Services will be held beginning with a 9:30 a.m. blessing Saturday, Oct. 23, in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The Epiphany Ladies will conduct a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
