Andrew David Weiland, 50, of Charleroi, passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2021, in his own home in Fallowfield Township. He was born May 27, 1971, in Jamestown, N.Y. He is the son of Mary Lu Urey Weiland and the late David Merle Weiland. He graduated from Charleroi High School, Class of 1989. In 1996, he graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with degrees in philosophy and mathematics. Andrew spent 15 years in Portland, Ore., in the tech industry before coming back to Pennsylvania in 2017. He will be sorely missed by his sister, Emily Weiland and her husband, Michael Baker; plus their children, Darcy and Graham Baker; and his grandmother, Mabel Graham Weiland of Cabot Pa., also mourns his passing. He is mourned by his extended family, his aunts, uncles and cousins. Aunts and uncles include Barbara (Chris) Pastrick, Jackie (Michael) O’Donnell, Merle (Paris) Weiland, John (Janet McDonald) Weiland, Patty (Joseph) Stehle, Dean Weiland, Marion (Jack) West, Michael (Cheryl) Weiland, Kenneth Weiland, Ethel (William) Miller, Louise (George) Lineman, Elizabeth Philson, and Charlotte Urey. Several members of his family preceded him in death including his father, David Weiland; and his maternal grandparents, Mabelle Van Woert and David M. Urey Sr., and his paternal grandfather Merle H. Weiland. Andrew battled cancer for almost five years. He received excellent medical care at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Hillman Cancer Center, Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital and Melenyzer Cancer Center, the visiting nurse programs and UPMC Hospice Care. We thank them for their efforts. The family also thanks friends who have brightened the days with cards, visits, and prayers. In accordance with Andrew’s wishes there will be no funeral home visitation or formal funeral services. A memorial celebrating his memory will be held in the near future. Arrangements have been entrusted to HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC. (formerly Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home), 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022, Kirk Russell Melenyzer, funeral director. Interment will occur at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township, Pa.
