Eleanor Welsh Owens – Belle Vernon

Eleanor Welsh Owens, 90, of Belle Vernon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Dunlevy Manor. Born May 2, 1931, in Belle Vernon, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Mildred O. Griffith Welsh. A resident of Belle Vernon, Mrs. Owens was a member of Fayette City Presbyterian Church. She did her “day work,” was affectionately known as the “Cookie Lady” for the many cookies she baked and gave out to everyone and she took pride in her cleaning and keeping an immaculately clean house. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Terry Lape of Washington Township; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Debbie Owens of Fayette City; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Robin Owens of Belle Vernon; a son, Herb Owens of Ohio; and a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Lane Owens of Colorado; friend and niece, Becky Miller; as well as 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Owens: daughter, Lori Vargo; infant daughter, Judith; two brothers, William and James Welsh; as well as her sister, Virginia Miller. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, followed by funeral services at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Kay Glunt of First Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon officiating at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Private family interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Eleanor’s family would also like to thank a neighbor, Lenny, who could not have been a better neighbor; and to Brianne of OSPTA Hospice and the staff of Dunlevy Manor.
