Sports Stew: Johnston became top coach at Marple Newtown

Smokey Robinson wrote a song for the Temptations which included the line, “If good looks was a minute, you know that you could be an hour.”
Using that same logic, if honors and accomplishments were money, Ray Johnston would be a multi-millionaire.
His story begins with roots firmly planted in West Newton where he attended high school (Class of 1957) and where he played baseball and basketball for the Hornets. He handled diamond duties on the mound and at first base, and on the court he was a forward on the 1956-57 team which won the Section 17 championship.
