Eugene J. ‘Pookey’ Hall Sr. – Monongahela
Eugene J. “Pookey” Hall Sr., 86, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Mon Valley Care Center, Monongahela. He was born on June 1, 1935, in Monessen, and was the son of the late Oliver and Concepta Maria “Lena” Fiorill Hall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Denise Hall; three children, Eugene Hall Jr., Cindy Hall and Jeffrey Hall; as well as two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Mary Koontz. Eugene grew up in Monessen, where he regularly attended St. Leonard’s Catholic Church and served as an altar boy. Eugene was a standout basketball player at Monessen High School, where he scored the first basket in the new gym at the time. He was a U.S. Army veteran (1954-56), worked at the Page Division of American Chain and Cable, retired from Corning Glass Works, was a foreman for DomenAlex Inc. and later drove a taxi for Tri-County Access. Eugene also had a great mind for numbers. Eugene enjoyed belonging to local clubs, including the PNA and the Eagles Club. He was quite the ale connoisseur and was certainly one easy guy to love. He is sorely missed by his caregivers, friends and family; most especially by his children — Daddy loved them with all his heart for the greater part of his life. He is survived by children, Sherry Yaroscak, Jackie Wallis (Eileen Major), Paula Ferraro, Lisa Wallis (Drew Walther), Shawn (Susan) Hall, Concepta Maria (Jeffrey) Koontz and Seanna (Donte) Mabry; grandchildren, Jerry and Stephen (Alexis) Yaroscak, Ashley and Krystal Wallis, Domenica (Robert) Heller, Alexandra (Justin) Jerome, Rhea Regul, Courtney, Eric and Becca Hall, Alyssa Giudici, Theresa Hall, William and Jacob Koontz, Amarah Hall, Paris (Deazwun) Campbell and Shonte Mabry; and great-grandchildren, Gage Yaroscak, Stephen Jr. and Anastasia Yaroscak, Landyn and Skylynn Wallis, Maria, Vincent, Miyah and Robert Heller, Jesse and Josephina Jerome, Shane Simon, Alex Regul, Donte Lanier, Jaylon Brown, MarSean and Mason Campbell and Alisha Campbell, plus several nieces and nephews. Eugene is also survived by his brother, Francis (Betty) Hall. He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Russo and her husband, the late John “Bobby” Russo. The family would like to sincerely thank Melvin Cook, Eugene’s absolute role model of a best friend for 81 years, as well as Mon Valley Care Center staff, who were truly extended family, for the tremendous care taken of Eugene over the years; he knew that he was loved. There will not be visitation. A Catholic Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela, will be held in Eugene’s memory; burial will be held at the National Cemetery of The Alleghenies, Bridgeville, both at a later date.
