Robert K. Hunter – Monongahela
Robert K. Hunter, 81, of Monongahela, Carroll Township, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in Charleroi on Aug. 6, 1940, son of the late Clarence and Emma Hunter. Following his graduation in 1958 from Monongahela High School, Bob served four years, from 1958 to 1962, in the U.S. Army. He retired as a well tender for Peoples Natural Gas Co. On Feb. 2, 2022, Bob was honored and awarded for being the longest-serving member of VFW Post 1409 in Monongahela with 6s0 years of selfless service and dedication to the club. He was also a member of the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad, American Legion Post 949 in Carroll Township and Ginger Hill Grange 1549. Bob is survived by a stepson, John K. Balchik of Madison, Tenn.; and a stepdaughter, Janet M. Galaski of Monongahela; three step-grandchildren, Brittany M. (Jerod) Smith of Irwin, Jennifer (Dr. Stuart) Simko of Greenville, S.C., and Christopher Weschler of Ladson, S.C.; four step-great-grandchildren, Brielle and Cassidy Smith and Pippa and Carrington Simko; a brother, Richard B. Hunter and wife Dorothy of Lawrence, Pa.; and two nephews, Phillip Hunter of Bethel Park and Alexander Hunter in Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Micak Hunter, who died Aug. 15, 2014; and a daughter, Kathleen Balchik-Weschler, who died March 13, 2006. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, where services will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday with Deacon Al Poroda officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, with military honors conducted by the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Memorial contributions can be made in Bob’s name to the Mon-Valley Honor Guard, 438 Alexander St., Monongahela, PA 15063.
