William P. Dougherty – White Oak
William P. Dougherty, of White Oak, passed away on April 18, 2022. He was born Sept. 22, 1950, in McKeesport and is the son of the late James “Ted” and Mary Ann Pomaibo Dougherty. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 until 1974, while serving two tours in Vietnam, served in the U.S. Navy from 1975 until 1977, and in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1978 until 1979. He was a former commander of Gen. Smedley D. Butler, American Legion Post 701 in White Oak. In the early 1980s, he was a McKeesport City Council member, coached football for the McKeesport Little Tigers and coached baseball for the McKeesport Pony League. He also played softball on many teams and loved to golf and travel. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church. He is survived by his wife, Scarlet Cornelius Dougherty; sons, Timothy W. Dougherty of White Oak and Christopher Dougherty of White Oak; daughter, Stephanie (Christopher) Elash of White Oak; brothers, James (Barbara) Dougherty of Normalville, Thomas (Jean) Dougherty of Duquesne, Michael (Patti) Dougherty of West Mifflin, Johnny (Jody Vavrek) Dougherty of Versailles, Raymond (Lynn) Dougherty of White Oak and Danny Dougherty of Versailles; granddaughter, Makayla; and many, many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Elash. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
