It’s Etched in Stone: Remembering the Mon Valley’s mom-and-pop shops

Before Walmart, before Giant Eagle, before Shop ’n Save and even before Thorofare, there were mom-and-pop stores and neighborhood grocers.
The only supermarket I recall during those years of Cheerios and Wheaties was the A&P. It was an era when most families were still single-income families. Our moms were stay-at-home moms, so strict budgeting was necessary for most of our Valley families.
