As Americans grapple with the heartbreak and devastation over 19 elementary students and two adults tragically shot and killed at a Texas school on Tuesday – local parents are struggling to find the words to console their children and make sense of the senseless tragedy themselves.
The massacre at the Robb Elementary School in the town of Uvalde, Texas, marks the 11th school shooting since 2007 in which four or more people were killed. The gunman barricaded himself inside of a classroom and took the lives of the innocent children and teachers before he was killed by law enforcement, officials said. In the Mon Valley, the sting of the news is fresh and has brought up past memories and worries for parents, teachers and district leaders as the end of the 2021-22 school year approaches.
