John Joseph Elash – Mckeesport

John Joseph Elash, 74, of McKeesport, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was born in McKeesport on Sept. 28, 1947, and is the son of the late John Andrew and Ann Veronica Jakub Elash. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After the war, he was employed at U.S. Steel in Duquesne, then transferred to Wheeling, W.Va., then retired at Irvin Works. He was a member of the Jedneto, the First Catholic Slovak Union. John was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Cleo Lindberg Elash; son, John Jason Elash of McKeesport; daughter, Debbie Vereb of White Oak; grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Elash, Emma Louise Elash, Sarah Ann Elash and Madison Kathleen Vereb; sister, Beverly Cardo of East McKeesport; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Margie Pierce, Arlene Greiser and Dorothy Ambrose. Family and friends will gather at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2022. (Parastas services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2022.) Divine liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022, with Father William Rupp officiating at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 701 Foster Ave., Duquesne, PA 15110.
