Connected by cookies: Through the Wedding Cookie Table Community, MVI staff reaches out to newsroom in Uvalde, Texas

When the Monongahela-based Wedding Cookie Table Community decided to band together to send gifts of love to Uvalde, Texas in the wake of the Robb Elementary School shooting, it gave the Mon Valley Independent an opportunity to tell a heartwarming story after the tragedy.
Laura Magone, WCTC founder, spoke with the MVI about how the community here could get involved in baking and sending cookies for two public events, donate money to purchase copies of the book, “Tear Soup: A Recipe for Healing After Loss,” by Pat Schewiebert and Chuck DeKlyen and Jellycat stuffed animals for grieving children.
The Cookies for Uvalde project planned to distribute cookies during a community gathering at Sacred Heart church and again at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, for the workers there who treated the shooting victims. But the project also included sending trays of cookies to first responders, to funeral homes and other local public places – including the Uvalde Leader-News.
