Edward J. ‘Hammer’ Buraczewski – Monessen, formerly of Charleroi
Edward J. “Hammer” Buraczewski, 94, of Monessen, formerly of Charleroi, passed away on July 24, 2022. Born on May 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Mike and Ida Stankovitch Buraczewski. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish and a former member of Epiphany of Our Lord Parish. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion and was a charter member of the 10th Street AC, all of Charleroi. He enjoyed gambling and taking his yearly trips to Las Vegas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving 26 months in Europe during the Korean War. A highly educated man, Edward graduated from Charleroi High School in 1946, attended Alliance College (1946-48), California University (1951-54), Master of Science, University of Pittsburgh (1954-58), Master of Education, and the University of Notre Dame (1958-63), Master of Chemistry. He was a Chemistry teacher for McGuffey (1954-57) and Charleroi from 1957 until his retirement in 1986. Edward is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Charles, Mike and Steve Buraczewski, Mary Brandeburg, Helen Grusva, Francis Smalling and Amelia Buraczewski. The family would like to thank Rose from Cambridge Hillside and Sherri from Caring Hospice for their special care. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez funeral director. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, with interment following in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Monessen. In lieu of flowers, blankets, or wind chimes, memorial contributions may be made to his niece Mary Pat’s school, Clelian Heights School for Exceptional Children, 135 Clelian Heights Lane, Greensburg, PA 15601.
