A Washington County woman was struck by a Norfolk Southern train near Lincoln Street in Elco Wednesday evening. The pedestrian was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital where it is believed she is recovering from significant injuries.
According to RESA Regional Police Officer Anthony Mosco, the pedestrian was walking along the tracks headed northbound when she was struck by a southbound train traveling at a speed of less than 40 mph.
“She was walking on the outside of the tracks and the train was whistling, but apparently she didn’t hear it,” Mosco said. “It appears she got hit by the side of the train”
