Monessen wants ambulance calls handled by county 911, not Mon Valley EMS

Almost a month after Mon Valley EMS visited Monessen Council to address rumors about response times and staffing concerns, the city is going to ask Westmoreland County 911 to take a more active role in assigning ambulance coverage.
The beleaguered Mon Valley EMS has seen multiple communities drop its service over the past year as local councils and boards of commissioners have cited poor response times and safety concerns as the driving force behind the moves. During a council meeting Thursday, Mayor Ron Mozer said he is concerned about how long it takes for MVEMS to determine it won’t be able to reach a caller quickly before it decides to ask another service to step up.
