A junction box that helps synchronize traffic signals with the railroad has gone missing in Charleroi.
The box, which was installed neath 8th Street and McKean Avenue, is missing and borough officials are not sure what happened — but they will have to figure out how to replace it before a multi-million dollar traffic signal project can begin.
On Wednesday, council agreed to apply for a PennDOT grant for Adaptive Traffic Signal Controls to help cover the $50,000 price tag that will come with the work to replace it, but if the grant is unsuccessful, council will have to work it in to next year’s budget. Otherwise, it could stall a long-anticipated traffic signal project that will provide millions in updates through town.
