A representative of the NAACP and a manager from Fourth Street BBQ confronted a Speers borough councilman for allegedly referring to employees at the business as “slaves.” In his letter, council President Curt Rice directly quotes passages from the message, which concerned a potential new bus stop in the borough.
“Not one Speers resident needs a bus stop up there,” the message reads. “That bus is specifically for Dave (Barbe’s) slaves, who already have vans and aren’t even citizens.”
