Hounds drop showdown for conference crown

Missed opportunities and ill-advised penalties cost Monessen in a de facto Tri-County South Conference championship game Friday night. The Greyhounds also had to deal with the hard-nosed running of Mapletown’s Landan Stevenson, who gained 176 yards and threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter as the Maples edged Monessen, 26-18, to win the program’s third overall conference championship and its first since 2005.
