Monessen mayor proposes growth initiative with church leaders

In the early 1980s, community organizers in East Brooklyn, N.Y., began building blocks of the American dream where nothing worth a dime had stood for decades — they called it the Nehemiah Project. In the Bible’s Old Testament, Nehemiah was a developer who rebuilt the walls surrounding Jerusalem. The charge in East Brooklyn was led by church leaders, and Monessen Mayor Ron Mozer has also placed his hopes for a similar project in the hands of the city’s religious leaders.
