Mark Smith has stepped down as president of the Mon Valley Academy for the Arts — but he is not leaving the organization.
During a recent meeting, the academy’s board of directors accepted Smith’s resignation, effective immediately, as he transitions into the newly created role of chief executive officer.
Smith founded the organization in 2015 with the late former state Rep. Peter J. Daley and late maestro Joe Campus.
Smith said the transition will allow him to better advocate for the MVAA, while leaving an opportunity for growth.
“This move is intended to help expand the organization’s programming,” Smith said.
