Since the collapse of Big Steel decades ago, there’s been talk, as well as action, to clean up and make new use of brownfield sites in the Greater Pittsburgh region. Allegheny County towns in the Mon Valley — from Clairton and McKeesport to Duquesne, Braddock and Homestead — are home to a number of those sites. Thanks to McKeesport- based Auberle and its Employment Institute, individuals across Allegheny County have access to the employment training and preparedness resources they need to enter into a career of remediation of contaminated land — known as “brownfields” — in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
