Charleroi spelling champ prepares for regionals

Declan Blair is a word whiz. An eighth-grader at the Charleroi Area Middle School, he recently became the third student in the school’s history to win the spelling bee three years in a row. Eighth-grade mathematics teacher Laurie Lash, who oversees the spelling competition, said only Jennifer Tharp and Daniel Riskey have won in sixth, seventh and eighth grade. The spelling bee began in 2003.
