Rosemary A. Jenkins – Rostraver Township
Rosemary A. Jenkins, 77, of Rostraver Township, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous fight with cancer. Born in Monongahela, on Aug. 28, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Margaret E. Naylor Aitken. She was the youngest child and the only daughter of their three children. It was in Fellsburg where Rosemary began her journey of faith. A Christian and strong believer in Christ, Rosemary and her family have always been active in Fells United Methodist Church. Fellsburg had plenty of relatives, and she often said you could not swing a stick without hitting an Aitken or a Naylor! A lot of time was spent at her Uncle Walt’s farm located where Fells Church sits today. Rosemary attended Robert Morris College. After graduation, she took a big step and moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a secretary and office manager for a lawyer with the IRS. It was in D.C. in 1966 where she met her future husband Gary, a Marine currently stationed nearby. They wed Feb. 10, 1968, and soon welcomed two sons, Gary II born in 1969 and Robert born in 1971. In 1969, Rosemary and Gary’s life took a dramatic change after Gary, who was serving his second deployment to Vietnam, suffered a spinal cord injury and lost the use of his legs. They decided to move back near Fellsburg where her family would be able to provide help and support. Rosemary was a force of nature with her capable and quiet ways…headstrong, loyal, giving, loving… all in equal parts. Besides her family, she enjoyed being active in the church and spending time with friends from around home or from the 30 years she and Gary were snowbirds in Florida. She was always willing to lend a hand to those that needed help. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary D. Jenkins; sons, Gary (Valerie) Jenkins and Robert (Heather) Jenkins; her beloved grandchildren, Madeline, Dean and Hattie Rose; brother, Dean (Cindi) Aitken; sister-in-law, Pauline Aitken; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lee Aitken. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Zack Bohinski officiating. Interment will follow in Fells Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Fells United Methodist Church, 1268 Fellsburg Road, Rostraver, PA 15012.
