For one Belle Vernon Area High School senior, years of work in scouts culminated in an Eagle Scout award in October and lessons in morality and community service that will last a lifetime.
Alex Chovan, who became a Cub Scout in first grade before moving to Boy Scouts in fifth grade, earned his Eagle Scout distinction after completing a lengthy list of renovations on the concession stand at Community Bank Park in North Belle Vernon last year.
Chovan’s ceremony, which took place one day before his 18th birthday on Oct. 1, 2022, was attended by state Sen. Pat Stefano, R-Bullskin Township and state Rep. Eric Davanzo, R-South Huntingdon Township, and community members to show their appreciation for the work he spearheaded.
“I had seen all these other older scouts get their Eagle, and I was always impressed going through their Eagle ceremonies and seeing everything that they did,” Chovan said. “They really inspired me to go and get my Eagle so that the younger scouts would also be excited and inspired to make it there.”
