Trail volunteers aid ailing hiker

Yough River Trail Council volunteers spend much time ridding its section of the Great Allegheny Passage of fallen trees and debris. In recent days, two volunteers likely saved a man’s life. After heavy wind swept through the area, John Irwin and Don Takac were out cleaning the trail near Layton and encountered a hiker holding his chest in obvious distress.
