Bears enter state playoffs by upending rival Eagles

For the first time in a decade, the Clairton boys basketball team is heading back to the state playoffs. The Bears featured four players in double figures and managed to fend off a late comeback by Serra Catholic to punch its ticket to the PIAA tournament with a 68-59 victory on William J. Cleary Court Monday night. In the process of securing a postseason trip, Clairton (12-13) avenged a pair of regular-season losses to its Section 2 rival from Serra (14-11). The Eagles earned victories of 77-66 and 56-51 in January.
