James L. Harkins – Dawson, Pa.

James L. Harkins, 74, of Dawson, Pa., passed away at 4:41 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, in the Scottdale Manor & Rehabilitation Center, East Huntingdon Township. Jim was born April 24, 1948, in Mount Pleasant, son of the late Harry L. and Dorothy Newell Harkins. Jim was retired from U.S. Steel, where he was employed for over 40 years, and was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime and faithful member of Bryan United Methodist Church in Lower Tyrone Township and enjoyed golfing and playing cards! Jim will be sadly missed by his loving family, his sister, Nancy Heisterman; his brother, Kenneth Harkins and his wife Vicki; his niece, Kathy Harclerode and husband Travis; his three nephews, Art Heisterman Jr., Garrett Harkins and Eric Harkins and wife McKenzie; his great-niece, Beth Ann Harcleroad; and his great-nephew, Tyler Harcleroad. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of RALPH GALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 501 Railroad St., Dawson, Pa., www.fergusonfunerals.com. At Jim’s request, there will be no viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Bryan United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Myers officiating. Graveside committal service and inurnment will follow in Cochran Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bryan United Methodist Church. Love Lasts Forever!
