Monessen library hosts program on historic battalion

Monessen Public Library hosted a presentation Saturday afternoon about a pioneering Women’s Army Corps unit during World War II. The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, made up entirely of African American women, earned a reputation for efficiency and dedication to duty. The program was introduced by Monessen Councilwoman Lois Thomas. She told the crowd that while she supports the teaching of Black history, she regrets that it’s taught separately from the broader subject of U.S. history.
