The Elizabeth Forward School Board offered some updates on the status of the high school in the wake of last month’s fire during Wednesday night’s agenda meeting.
District Superintendent Dr. Keith Konyk said he wants to get every student back into the inhabitable parts of the building by the end of the school year, but he’s not able to make any guarantees.
“It will be limited, it’s not going to be a perfect situation,” he said. “We understand that, and I hope the public does as well. We have enough space, with some creativity and sacrifice, that we can get back every student that we can. Again, these are not promises, it’s just difficult because there are so many moving parts and I apologize that we can’t give exact details.”
The board has looked into other options, including a recent meeting with Community College of Allegheny County at its south campus in West Mifflin, but found that alternatives are extremely hard to figure out due to the logistics of a high school schedule.
Konyk also mentioned that crews working at the high school turned generators on Wednesday because the school’s switchgear “didn’t operate the way that they had hoped.” Additionally, repair work on the boiler room is also starting.
