South Allegheny High School’s presentation of “Bye Bye Birdie” was scheduled to open today, but it will now premier a week later due to a production member becoming ill.
The spring musical has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. March 23, 24 and 25, plus a 2 p.m. matinee March 26. Tickets can be purchased at $5 for kids and students and $10 for adults.
Despite the postponement of the musical’s opening, producer Terri Mitchell is excited about bringing her newest vision to life as the whole group now gets more time to prepare.
“The last couple of days, you could really see a difference,” she said. “Running things with costumes on, lights on, full sets and on stage, it’s starting to fall into place.”
“Bye Bye Birdie” is a playful romantic comedy that depicts the story of Albert Patterson and Rose Alvarez concocting a plan to send Conrad Birdie — an Elvis Presley parody that has been drafted to the army like Presley was in 1957 – out with a bang.
