Sen. Jim Brewster announced $4.9 million in grants Thursday for community revitalization and infrastructure improvements in the 45th Senate District. Thirty-one projects were awarded in Brewster’s district, with most of the awards coming from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Local Share Account. The majority of those projects are located in the Mon Valley. “I’ve got 37 communities so I try to make sure that, number one, they apply, because if they don’t apply then I can’t help them,” Brewster said. “In fact, one of the things I suggest for every community is to try and research and call my office to apply for as many grants as they think they qualify for with the idea that, if you apply for different types of grants …  you might qualify for a few and we can choose projects based on that.”
