Avery Allen Lewis – Vestaburg, Pa.
Avery Allen Lewis, a resident of Vestaburg, Pa., passed from this life on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, at the age of 35. Avery suffered a massive stroke caused by chronic high blood pressure and kidney disease. Avery was born on April 12, 1988, in Uniontown to Donell Lewis and Stacy Rene Cox. He graduated from Bethlehem Senior High School in 2006 and later attended Pittsburgh Technical Institute, studying graphic arts. He was a talented comic artist with a special interest in the anime genre. It was his dream to launch an anime-inspired comic book series that would be called “Crystal Legends.” He had the honor of winning a contest to draw the badge (logo) for the Tekko — Japanese Pop Culture and Anime Convention, held yearly in Pittsburgh. Avery’s special interests and favorite pastimes were drawing, writing stories, playing video games and spending time with his family. Avery was formerly employed by Valvoline in Robinson Township, Pa., as an oil technician and was in training to be a manager, but he was forced to stop working because of his health. Avery was seemingly shy and quiet … that was, until he got comfortable with you and then he wouldn’t stop talking. Many also didn’t know that he had great physical strength but was a very gentle soul with a fierce sense to protect his family and anyone he viewed as the underdog. He was very loving and loyal to his family and friends and to his fiancée, Michelle, with whom he shared a love for the past 15 years. He has been described as a lover of fried chicken, a mama’s boy, and as one who was born without malice … slow to anger and eager to forgive. What a beautiful soul! He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, Vernon J. Cox Jr. and Stacy Rene Cox of Clarksville, Pa.; his maternal grandmother, Icie Beulah Green of Clarksville, Pa.; his siblings, Danielle T. Tomsic of Easton, Pa., Tina Marie Biddings of Uniontown and Shamaurie Donell Lewis (Tara) of Tacoma, Wash.; Vernon J. “VJ” Cox, III of Pittsburgh; Tiah Nicole of Tacoma, Wash.; Anthony Ira Cox of McKeesport; Brandi Lea Cox of McKeesport; Adrian Allen Lewis of Pittsburgh; David Corkery of Ashville, N.C.; Tyler Kristian Cox of Crafton, Pa.; and Markazia Chanell Lewis of Brentwood; and his uncles, Clark William Green (Agnes) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Joseph Lewis Green of Clarksville, Pa.; his fiancée, Michelle Kathleen Diersen of Vestaburg, Pa.; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Donell Lewis; his paternal grandmother, Georgia Lee Lewis; maternal grandfather, Edward L. Tyler; and uncles, Dirk Allen Green and Stanley Green Carrington. Avery’s celebration of life will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Pitt Gas, 171 First St., Clarksville, PA 15322. There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service beginning at 1 p.m. Celebration of life has been gently placed in the hands of HOUSE OF JACKSON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 546 Thompson Ave., Donora, Karl Jackson, funeral director, 724-379-5420.
