Mozer pleads for civility at Monessen council meetings

Bringing courtesy and respect to council meetings was something that Monessen Mayor Ron Mozer campaigned on before taking office last year.
This year, he’s continually had to ask some residents who attend regular council meetings to stop name-calling, using vulgar language and insulting city officials.
Every request has been met with derision.
During Thursday’s meeting, Mozer once again made a plea for civility and was once again shot down.
Mozer explained how the citizens’ comment portion of a meeting works from a technical perspective.
Each meeting has two times available for residents to talk — in the beginning they can talk about anything on the agenda and at the end they can talk about anything else going on in the city.
Mozer talked about how the state’s Sunshine Act requires the city to post its agenda 24 hours in advance on the website and front door of city hall.
