Thomas Michael Burger – Monessen

Thomas Michael Burger, 96, of Monessen, died on Thursday, July 6, in his residence. Born in Monessen on Aug. 30, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Anna Kusar Burger. He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and the Monessen Hungarian Club. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Thomas, along with his wife, enjoyed polka and jitterbug dancing. He was a devoted grandfather,  babysitting, attending sporting events and was affectionately called “G.” Tom was also an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He retired from United Mine Workers Local 1197, where he was honored as the longest-serving member with over 53 years of continuous service. Besides his parents, he was predeceased in death by three brothers, Joseph, Frank and George; and a sister, Mary Kugler. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Dolly” Kovach Burger; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Ron Todaro of Greensburg and Valerie and Terry Burger-Carroll of Bethel Park; five grandchildren, Matthew Thomas and Danielle Carroll of Venetia, Eric Christopher and Kristy Carroll of Wexford, Justine Elisa Carroll of Bethel Park, Stephen Ronald and Betsy Todaro of Webster, N.Y., and Theresa Nicole and Alex Elwell of Sarasota, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Leo Matthew Carroll, Ava Grace Carroll, Bria Grace Todaro and Brooks Thomas Elwell; and a brother and sister-in-law, Vince and Ethel Burger of Monessen. Family and friends are asked to attend a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, at Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd., Monessen.
