A concerned resident’s inquiry reignited a conversation about the contents of the district’s libraries at Wednesday’s Ringgold School Board meeting.
Joe Ravasio, a former long-time teacher at Ringgold who lives in Monongahela, asked the school board if any offensive books unsuited for children have been tracked down in the district’s libraries.
“I am pleading with you – can you give those of us that still live in this community and love the community an answer?” Ravasio said. “Are we going to allow these books to be checked out? Because if they are, that filth that is in those books should not be permitted in any library in the world.”
Ravasio referenced the July meeting, in which school board candidate Heather Wilhelm voiced her disapproval of two books on the National Education Association’s Summer Reading List, and she asked if she could audit the district’s libraries.
“A plea was made from the heart of some concerned district people to simply say, ‘Can we see if any of that garbage, that filth is in our libraries?’” Ravasio said.
