Enoch James Eley Jr. – Fayette City
Enoch James Eley Jr., 83, of Fayette City, Pa., passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023. He was born Feb. 16, 1940, in Fayette City, Pa., son of Enoch James Eley Sr. and Wilma Liviskie Eley. Jim had been the owner of the Eley/McCrory Funeral Home since 1997, when he purchased the business from his former boss, Howard W. McCrory. Jim started working for the McCrory family in 1956 while still in high school and had been here ever since that time servicing families in the Fayette City area. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran. Jim was a 67-year member of the Fayette City Volunteer Fire Co., where he served over 40 years as the fire chief, past president of the Fayette County Firefighters Association in 1969-70, Southwestern Pa. Fire Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association, American Legion Post 484 in Fayette City, Perryopolis VFW Gold Star Post 7023, National Funeral Directors Association, Southwestern Pa. Funeral Directors Association and the former Perryopolis Travel Club where Jim and his wife Linda enjoyed traveling with their family and friends. He is survived by two daughters, Janet R. Maher and husband Michael of Herbeson, Del., and Deborah K. Parshall and husband Kelly of Fairhope; son, James M. Eley and wife Sherri of Fayette City; three granddaughters whom he adored, Katherine O. Maher, Bailey K. Parshall and Ashley M. Eley; sister, Joyce Moody of Fayette City; and brother, Leonard R. Eley Sr. and wife Wanda of Fayette City; sister-in-law, Newana Seruga and husband Stanley; brother-in-law, Charles Lynch and wife Sylvia; sister-in-law, Nancy Lynch; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Linda K. Eley on May 5, 2020; brother, Gerald Eley; five brothers-in-law, Lewis Moody, Harold Dwight Lynch, Harry Leonard Lynch, Donald “Pete” Lynch and Barry L. Lynch; two sisters-in law, Janice Lynch and Joyce Lynch; niece, Lynnie R. Druciak; two nephews, godson, Donald Lynch and Leonard R. Eley Jr. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at ELEY-MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME, Fayette City, Pa., www.eleymccfroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, with Pastor Joshua Scully officiating. Interment will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pa. A combined firefighters’ service conducted by the chaplain of the Fayette County Firefighters Association will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
