The Rostraver Township Board of Commissioners may consider increasing the mechanical amusement device fee.
Township police Chief Scott Sokol brought up a discussion on an increase to the fees for amusement mechanical devices within the township, including video poker games and games of chance.
Sokol said that there are $400 tax fees for businesses to put up such machines, but that surrounding areas charge closer to $1,000 for what can be lucrative devices for convenience stores or gas stations.
“We, just as members of the community out and about, have seen some of these machines popping in businesses,” Sokol said during Wednesday’s work session. “They’re exploding. And obviously with these machines, there’s revenue coming into these businesses.”
