The White Oak Borough Public Works maintenance garage recently received an important safety upgrade through the installation of a fire alarm system.
When the borough completed its municipal building renovation project, a fire alarm was installed in the municipal building itself, but not in the maintenance garage. This project allowed for an expansion of the existing alarm system.
“What we were able to do with this project was expand it to connect into the mainframe in the municipal building and include the public works maintenance garage,” borough Manager John Palyo said. “We were able to install a subpanel, the necessary alarms, the necessary lighting and the necessary heat sensors that can now watch and monitor the garage.
“If an accident were to occur, it will now call into the dispatch center and fire departments are dispatched immediately. The alarms will be going off, and someone will be there to check on it right away.”
State Sen. Jim Brewster, D-McKeesport, helped the borough obtain a $30,000 Keystone Commonwealth Grant, The borough paid $6,230 of the $36,230 project. Work was completed by Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP.
