Norma G. Scalise – Monessen
Norma G. Scalise, 100, of Monessen, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, in Mon Valley Care Center. She was born on Sept. 24, 1923, in Bedford, Pa., daughter of the late Fredrick and Nellie Folmer Hafer. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Epiphany Ladies and a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society Store. She worked at the Midway Turnpike Howard Johnson’s before moving to Monessen in 1943, where she then worked at J.C. Penney here in town. She is survived by her much-loving family, which includes her daughter, Francine (Scalise) Donovan; two sons-in-law, Michael K. Donovan and Joseph A. Markowski; granddaughter, Heather Donovan Jones; great-grandchildren, Donovan Jones and Kaitlyn Jones; numerous nieces and nephews and their families and two treasured friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Albert F. Scalise; beloved daughter, Gaynell (Scalise) Markowski; precious granddaughter, Ellen Marie Markowski; brothers and sisters, Neville Hafer, Katherine “Sis” Lohr, Elizabeth “Betty” Shove, Robert “Buckshot” Hafer, Jack Hafer, Phylis Hafer and all the deceased members of the Scalise family who embraced her from the moment that she moved to Monessen. Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. Services will begin with a blessing service at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Epiphany of our Lord Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum. Epiphany Ladies will hold a prayer service at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
