Relative helps Monessen church honor King’s legacy

A relative of Martin Luther King Jr. appeared virtually Sunday at Monessen’s Mt. Calvary Baptist Church as part of the annual MLK Day service. Mt. Calvary, led by Bishop Karl Jackson and located at 230 Reed Ave., holds annual commemorations of the civil rights icon. The church featured speeches by youth members, but this year, it also included remarks from Jackson’s cousin, Christine Jordan, a Georgia resident who is also a cousin of King. About five years ago, when trying to vote, she learned that her name had been removed from the voter rolls.
