William N. Callaway – Rostraver Township
William N. Callaway, 80, of Rostraver Township, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, in Jefferson Hospital. A son of the late William G. and Florence L. Altier Calla-way, he was born in North Charleroi on April 26, 1943. A lifelong resident of Rostraver Township, he was a member, lead usher, and past deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, a member of the American Legion Post 659 in Belle Vernon, the Fairhope Rod and Gun Glub, All-Ages Bowling League that he joined with his grandson, Kody, and the McDonald’s Morning Coffee Club. Bill graduated from Rostraver High School in 1961. He went to the electronics institute for 52 weeks, then attended Penn State Extension through Clairton Works, finishing at the top of his class. He was employed by U.S. Steel Co., Clairton Works, retiring in 2004. After retirement, Bill became a board member and secretary at the Rostraver Township Sewage Authority. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. Bill loved sports; he was a former coach for Belle Vernon Recreation baseball, Rostraver Midget football, and Rostraver softball where he coached his granddaughter, Holy Tara. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins and Steelers fan. He was a Steelers’ season ticket holder for over 25 years. He enjoyed the games with his family and always ended up being the designated driver for the ride home. Bill’s greatest love is his family and grandchildren. He didn’t miss a chance to watch them in sports, cheer, dance or any activity. Bill loved hunting and fishing as he was a hunter education instructor. He loved western TV shows, game shows, listening to the Gaithers and doing Sudoku puzzles. Pappy was “Mr. Fix-It or Build-It” for anything that was needed. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sally (Kulik) Callaway; a son and two daughters-in-law, William and Chemen Callaway of Rostraver Township and Sandra Callaway, also of Rostraver Township; seven grandchildren, Tori Callaway (Hunter Ruokonen), Tara, Kody, Samantha, Emily, Sarah and Katie Callaway, India (Michael) Aird and Cody Lealiki; a great-grandson, Hunter Boso; a sister, Beverly Belczyk of Rostraver Township; a brother and sisters-in-law, Larry and Lynda Callaway of Rostraver Township, Twinkle and James Shaw of Delaware and Sparkle Kulik of Belle Vernon; nieces and nephews, Laura Lee Callaway, Michelle Callaway Rodriguez, Larry (Jody) Callaway, D.J. (Lea) Belczyk, Jodi (Dennis) Yoney, Julie (Nick) Muro, Scotty (Cynthia) Shaw, John Kulik and Nick Kulik; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lyssa (Timmy) Gazdich, Brett Bishop, Bria Bishop, Larry Callaway, Malena Rodriguez, Gianna Callaway, Draydin Belczyk, Jordyn Belczyk, Malaina Muro, Madeline Muro, Nicky Muro, Brennan Shaw and Riley Shaw; his close friend, Dan Klanchar; and many other special relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ryan Callaway, on Dec. 31, 2010; and two brothers-in-law, Donnie Belczyk, on Feb. 7, 2023, and Butch Kulik; and a nephew, Ricky Kulik. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fayette St., Belle Vernon, with the Rev. Mary Kay Glunt officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members and officers of the First Presbyterian Church will meet in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday to hold services, as well as the members of the American Legion Post 659 in Belle Vernon.
