Agnes DiGregorio Sopko – Fayette City
Agnes was born in Pietransieri, Italy, on Nov. 25, 1925, one of the daughters of Annagidia Panzera DiGregorio and Vincenzo DiGregorio. Agnes was a member of St. Sebastian Church in Belle Vernon, and was previously a member of Holy Spirit Church in Fayette City, where she was a member of the “Handmaids.” Agnes was a registered nurse and graduated under the Cadet Nurse program from Brownsville General Hospital with affiliations at both Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia and Allentown State Hospital in Allentown, Pa. Agnes worked at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital and retired from Mon Valley Hospital after many years of service to both hospitals. After retirement, Agnes did volunteer work with the American Red Cross blood drive in the Mon Valley. She worked as a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Store in Monessen for a short period of time when the store first opened and later retired to take care of her husband. Agnes was a member of the Mon Valley Nurses Association for many years. Gardening, knitting and crocheting were a few of Agnes’ most enjoyed hobbies. Agnes was very proud of her family; she especially enjoyed family gatherings and telling her grandchildren about growing up in Italy and her trip coming to America. She liked it when she heard of family traditions that were being carried on. One of her most admirable traits was her ability to always see the good in people. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Anna Jean Stuchal (Dennis); son, Paul (Milana); and daughter-in-law, Kate Sopko (Peter). She was the beloved “Nonnie” (grandmother) of Elissa (Brice) Christopher, Amy (Garret) Brain, Chelsea (Phil) Hendrix, Nicole Sopko, Patrick (Lori) Sopko, Megan (Eric) Rodrigues and Brennan Sopko. Agnes’ great-grandchildren include Bailey Jean Brain, soon to arrive baby boy Brain, Xander Hendrix, Damian Hendrix, Niko Hendrix, Finley Jane Sopko, Emma Grace Sopko, and Peter Mac Rodrigues. Also surviving are a brother, Delfo DiGregorio; and sister, Edwina (Ronald) Valdiserri, along with many nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Peter A. Sr.; and son, Peter A. Jr.; and by her sisters, Giannina Cicone and Derna Lenart. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at: LLS-Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia, P.O.
