Commencement ceremonies for Yough Senior High School Class of 2024 will be held 7 p.m. May 31 at Cougar Mountain Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, it will be held in the gymnasium, same date and time.
There are 135 graduates this year.
Valedictorian is Zander Aird, and salutatorian is Claire Elizabeth Rupnik.
Zander, son of Chris and Melissa Aird of Herminie, is a three-sport athlete (soccer, basketball, baseball, earning 11 varsity letters in four years), was a member of four section championship teams, Westmoreland County Scholar Athlete Award finalist, National Honor Society president, The Future is Mine and Student Council member, student mentor and peer tutor and is a community volunteer.
Zander earned an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he will study management.
Claire, daughter of Megan K. Rupnik and Paul A. Rupnik Jr. of Irwin/Sewickley Township is Student Council vice president, The Future is Mine secretary, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and CAP/SADD member, student mentor, Yough cheerleader, and Dance Expressions by Erica Elite team member. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh (Oakland campus) to study biology.
