Pitt’s Graham has core muscle surgery
The junior forward is projected to need eight weeks to recover.
Pitt soon-to-be junior Jorge Diaz Graham suffered more bad luck on the injury front, the Panthers announced Friday, as the 6-foot-11 forward underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury.
Diaz Graham is expected to miss eight weeks.
This past season, he appeared in 16 games for Pitt off the bench, becoming a key rotation member for coach Jeff Capel’s squad, but was sidelined in mid-January because of an ankle ailment that ultimately required surgery Feb. 8, ending his 2023–24 campaign.
He averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10.4 minutes of action per game.
“The injury is a small setback for Jorge, but we are confident that he will make a full recovery,” Capel said in a release. “Jorge will work hard with our training staff during the recovery process, and we expect him to be ready to continue his on-court development later this summer. It is an unfortunate injury, but Jorge has been through this before and will attack the recovery process with a great attitude.”
Diaz Graham, a native of Spain’s Canary Islands (along with his twin brother, fellow Pitt forward Guillermo Diaz Graham), has appeared in 47 contests for the Panthers with one start dating to 2022.
