A resident at the Community Life Center in McKeesport was celebrated this week for becoming a centenarian.
Elizabeth “Betty” Cummings was treated to a grand 100th birthday Wednesday at the center as relatives and friends from all over showed up to celebrate her milestone.
Cummings shed many happy tears seeing all her loved ones for her birthday. She has five daughters, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grand-children, so the celebration was lively. Cummings has lived in East McKeesport all her life and says she loves it there.
Cummings has been at the Community Life Center for six years. Four years ago, she suffered a fall, which took time to recover from.
“They took such great care of me,” she said.
Cummings loves the caretakers at the center and the friends she’s made there, and many people stopped by to give hugs and birthday wishes during the celebration.
She said keeping busy makes the time go by faster. She enjoys going to church and doing things to help people.
As for her advice to living a long, good life, she advises to make friends who support you when you are in need and who you can pick up the phone and call anytime.
