Believe what Harry Rutherford says about his Warriors team
Mike Darnay’s photos, it’s obviously a deep sting, too. But when they all look back on what a special season this was, there’s plenty to be proud of.
A WPIAL title that was elusive for a number of years. To get that title, the Warriors had to get over the hump of the semifinals, where they were beaten last season.
Kudos to Harry Rutherford for looking deeper and starting some exercises and activities to make his team mentally stronger this season.
He admitted it took a long time for his team to get over that loss. This season, I never seen the team waver in the face of adversity.
Big Spring took them into the 8th inning scoreless until Julia Johnson stepped up to be the hero.
Even Friday, watching the stream of the championship game, the Warriors were down, but never once did I think they were out of it until the final pop-out was caught.
Reading through Liam Belan’s game story, Rutherford said all the right things, despite the fact he was obviously hurting for his team.
But have faith in him. Have faith in the returning players, because they are special.
If Rutherford says his team will be back at Penn State next season, believe it.
Sure, the Warriors will have to replace a couple players, including Shelby Telegdy and Carlee Soukup. But one thing is certain, the success of this group of players has motivated young players throughout the Warriors program.
They want to play for championships and it’s obvious from the success we’ve seen from the young players on this year’s team, they’re putting in the work at the youth and middle-school level.
The Warriors aren’t going to have to rebuild. They’re just going to reload.
Obviously things didn’t turn out the way the Elizabeth Forward softball team wanted them to.
