Farmer market open at West Newton center
Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic Parish will conduct a Family Fun Night from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Church, 101 Mc-Lay Drive, Elizabeth. Games, live music, car cruise, food trucks and a cookie table, raffle baskets and more will be included.

Rockin’ on the Mon kicks off season with 2-day festival at aquatorium
The Rockin’ on the Mon summer concert series opens with the inaugural Riverfest, a family- friendly festival Friday and Saturday with a seven-band lineup, a DJ and food trucks.
The festival, a collaborative effort by Aquatorium Innovations and Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency, includes several bands that have rocked on the Mon in years past, including Buckwild and Bon Journey.
The full festival schedule includes: Friday: 4:30 p.m., Stampede; 6:30 p.m., Buckwild, 8:30 p.m., Bon Journey; Saturday: 2:30 p.m., Day One; 4:30 p.m., Broom; 6:30 p.m., Gene the Werewolf and 8:30 p.m., The Commonheart. Gates will open at 4 p.m. both days. Admission cost is $10 for each day, and tickets can be purchased at the gate or at eventbrite. com.
Blessing of the animals to be held at First Presbyterian Church
The First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fayette Ave., Rostraver Township, will have a short church lawn service followed by a blessing of the animals at 10 a.m. Saturday. It is asked that all pets be leashed or in a carrier. Pet food and monetary donations will be collected for Mon Valley Paws, or if not attending this day, contact Natalie at 724-929-7616 to donate.
West Newton church to hold hoagie sale
The West Newton First Church of God, 157 N. Second St., will hold its second hoagie sale of the year on Saturday. Hoagies are $10. Call 724-872-7467 to place an order and give a pick up time at the church.
Leftover hoagies will be sold at Ace Hardware and Rite Aid.
St. John the Baptist in Perryopolis to host Parish Festival
St. John the Baptist Church in Perryopolis will hold its Parish Festival from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Included on Saturday will be a 4 p.m. outdoor Mass, live entertainment and Italian Festa food. On Sunday, there will be an outdoor polka Mass at 9:30 a.m., live entertainment from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and many homemade foods.
Games for children and adults, kids’ play area and raffles will be held both days.

Audubon Society to hold walk at Renzie Park
The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will hold an invasive species walk 10 a.m. Saturday at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport.
During the free program, walk around the park to observe and discuss real world examples of invasive species and their impacts.

Creative writing class to be held at Monongahela Area Library
The Monongahela Area Library will hold a creative writing class at 3 p.m. Saturday. All skill levels and genres are welcome. Attendees help each other develop writing plans, work past creative blocks and improve their craft.
