Charleroi legion snaps losing skid
Charleroi snapped a three-game losing skid in senior legion play with a 16-7 win over visiting Waynesburg at Vets Field Wednesday. Charleroi’s Daniel Verscharen had a pair of hits and four RBIs to lead the offense. It was scoreless after an inning until Charleroi put up five runs in the bottom of the second and added six more in the bottom of the third to put too much distance between the teams on the scoreboard. Jake Beveridge got the win tossing four innings and allowing only three hits and two runs. One of those runs was earned. Eddie Frizzell had two hits and two runs batted in, and Ben Shields chipped in a double for Charleroi. Brody Ross took the loss for Waynesburg (0-10). He was tagged for 11 earned runs and nine hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked four. Andrew Sprinkle, Joey Campbell, Jimmy Nash, Tyler O’Neil and Jace Pager, each drove in a run for Charleroi. Charleroi (7-5) will look to win consecutive games when it heads to Smithfield-Fairchance Friday.
